Italy’s green challenge: the environmental transition and the next generation
La sfida verde dell’Italia: transizione ecologica e nuove generazioni
About this event
Counterpoint and Agenda have partnered for this Italian roundtable as part of our Green Wedge project funded by the Open Society European Policy Institute in Brussels. The aim of the Green Wedge Project is to map potential dissent against the European Green Deal in 8 EU countries. The project led us to draw some overall conclusions across the EU landscape, but its comparative component encouraged us to look at the particular contexts (political, social, cultural) in which dissent, but also support, might materialise: hence our roundtables in each of our case study countries, including, of course, Italy. One theme that comes out strongly from all of our research across Europe is the generational divide – and the demands for intergenerational justice in the context of climate change. In the Italian case the generational point has been salient for a long time, and so we are keen to explore with you how the Green Deal and the Fit for 55 package will play out against Italy’s particularisms.
We thank the Treccani Institute for its generous hosting for this day of discussions, exchange of views and suggestions for a better approach to this crucial policy and societal area.
